F.E.A.R: False Evidence Appearing Real

This workshop explores how white fear has shaped our democracy and society from the beginning—and today, it’s more intense and visible than ever. To neutralize white fear, we must first understand it. This phenomenon of fear is not new.

It enabled the rise of SCUMP. It’s behind the recent flood of restrictive voting laws disproportionately impacting people of color. It’s why reactions to movements like Black Lives Matter and a football player taking a knee have been so negative.​

​For far too long, many Americans have either sat on the side lines, watching what’s been happening politically in silence, or consistently voted against their own interests to preserve an “R” behind a candidate’s name. ​

​This time is different! There is no time to waste on fear…we must act now!!Let’s put away the deep-seated fear that many White people have of losing power, economic standing, or a particular “way of life,” and replace it with a determination to save our democracy. It is currently on life support. ​

​As we approach the upcoming midterms, we have a chance to turn things around. What kind of country do we want for our future? Fear is the only thing standing between what we have now and what we want our country to become. ​
